Star Fox is heading back into the skies with a fresh multiplayer focus on Switch 2. During its Star Fox Direct, Nintendo showed the game's battle mode, bringing aerial dogfights back as a main part of the experience.
The mode is built around all-new 4-vs-4 battles with up to eight players online. One side flies for Team Star Fox, while the other joins Team Star Wolf, setting up a clean rivalry that fits the series' classic space combat energy.
Players will also be able to set up team battles through private matches. For smaller groups, GameShare support adds another way to play, with matching for up to four players locally or online. Nintendo also confirmed that GameShare lets people using the original Switch join locally, so Switch 2 owners will not be the only ones able to take part in that setup.
As expected, the online side has a few requirements. Anyone who wants to access the online multiplayer content will need a Nintendo account and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Z-retro's view: this sounds like a smart way to revive Star Fox's old arcade spirit without overcomplicating it. The team split is easy to understand, and GameShare could make local play feel more welcoming across Switch systems.
