Nintendo has shared a fresh look at how GameChat will work in the upcoming Switch 2 release Star Fox. The feature will let players appear in chat as characters from the Star Fox universe, giving video calls a more playful in-game feel.

The character avatars are designed to follow the player’s head movement and facial expressions. Nintendo says the effect can track mouth movement, blinking, and eyebrow motion, so the Star Fox-style face should react while someone talks or looks around.

Nintendo also posted a video through its official social media account to show the feature in motion. Alongside the full character look, Star Fox will include AR filters that can add touches such as Star Fox-like ears or a Falco-inspired beak that moves while talking.

There is one important detail to remember: GameChat requires an active Switch Online subscription. That means these avatar and filter features will sit behind Nintendo’s online service rather than being available to every Switch 2 owner by default.

Z-retro’s view: this looks like a small but charming use of GameChat, especially for fans who enjoy a bit of character flavor around their multiplayer sessions. Its real value will depend on how often players use GameChat in daily play.
