Sony subsidiary ANIPLEX has announced Melty Blood: Twi-Lumina, an updated re-release of the 2021 PS4 fighting game Melty Blood: Type Lumina. The new version is planned for both PS5 and PS4 in 2027.
For now, the reveal is a small one. ANIPLEX has shared a brief promo video, but there is not much else to go on yet. What we do know is that Japanese developer French-Bread is back on the project, which should matter to players who enjoyed the original game's quick, stylish anime-fighter feel.
Type Lumina itself takes place before the events of Type-Moon's well-known visual novel Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon. That connection helped give the 2021 release its own special pull, mixing sharp fighting game action with a setting that already had a lot of history behind it.
Some fans may wonder why the game is getting a re-release instead of a brand-new follow-up. Even so, there is an important bit of context here: all DLC characters for the original Melty Blood: Type Lumina were added free of charge. In a modern fighting game scene where extra characters often come at a price, that old-school generosity still stands out.

With the launch window set for 2027, it may be a while before ANIPLEX and French-Bread share deeper details. For now, Melty Blood: Twi-Lumina is one for PlayStation fighting game fans to keep on their radar, especially anyone with a soft spot for Type-Moon's world and fast, technical 2D battles.
