Final Fantasy XIV is finally making its way to Switch 2 this August. After plenty of hints and hopeful talk over the years, the long-awaited Nintendo version was confirmed during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival keynote in Anaheim.

A Long-Awaited Nintendo Arrival

Producer Naoki Yoshida has been open for a while about wanting to see the hit MMO on a Nintendo platform. This time, the idea became real, with the Switch 2 version officially announced on stage.

The Subscription Catch

There is one detail that may frustrate some existing players. Final Fantasy XIV currently uses one subscription across PS5, PS4, Xbox, and PC, but the Switch 2 version will need its own separate subscription.

Players who already subscribe on another platform will at least get a 50% discount on the Switch 2 subscription. The good news is that your account and character will carry over, so you will not need to start again.

Another useful note: you do not need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to play on Switch 2. Square Enix has also said that full details for this version are available on the official Final Fantasy XIV website.

What We Have Seen So Far

During the keynote, Yoshi-P even held up a Switch 2 and showed his Lalafell character on stage. From that brief look, the game seemed fairly normal from a distance, though a closer look will tell us much more about how this version really shapes up.

Final Fantasy XIV Switch 2 Subscription

More information will likely arrive soon, especially around how much content will be available and how the Free Trial will work on Switch 2. For now, the expectation is that it will follow the same model as other platforms, and the trial is set to expand to include Shadowbringers on 28 April.
