A Quarter Century Of Spira

Final Fantasy X is about to hit a milestone that may make longtime PlayStation fans pause for a second. Square Enix's much-loved RPG first arrived on PS2 in 2001, and on July 19, 2026, it will officially be 25 years old.

To mark the anniversary, Square Enix has opened a special website. For now, the page is mainly aimed at Japan, and its current focus is fresh Final Fantasy X merchandise. The lineup includes character plushies, an art book, and a vinyl release for the game's soundtrack, which remains one of its most treasured parts.

There is no confirmed western rollout for these items at the moment. Square Enix may still have more anniversary plans to share as July gets closer, but expectations should probably stay modest unless the company says otherwise.

In a practical sense, Final Fantasy X is already easy to revisit today. Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster brought the original game and its direct sequel to PS4 in 2015, and that collection remains the main modern way to return to Tidus and Yuna's story on current PlayStation hardware.

Final Fantasy X 25 Art

Outside of a full remake, it is hard to say what else Square Enix could add to Final Fantasy X at this stage. Still, 25 years is a fine reason to look back at one of the PS2 era's defining RPGs, from its turn-based battles and Blitzball detours to its bittersweet journey through Spira.
