Part 3 Is Moving Along
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is getting plenty of attention this week thanks to its upcoming Switch 2 version, but Square Enix has not put the trilogy's final chapter on the back shelf. The third entry is still in active development, and director Naoki Hamaguchi has once again said the project is moving smoothly.
Earlier this year, fans learned that Part 3 already has an official title. More recently, Hamaguchi described development as going very well, and his latest comments keep that same calm tone. He said the work is proceeding on time and on schedule, while preparations for an official announcement are also steadily moving forward.
Hamaguchi also framed the next game as the closing piece of the remake trilogy. Square Enix believes it can deliver the title with confidence as the culmination of the series, while also recognizing that many fans are waiting closely for the first proper reveal. For now, though, the studio is not sharing that announcement just yet.
Before Part 3 takes the spotlight, Rebirth is next in line for new platforms. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is due to launch on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S on 3rd June 2026. That release keeps the trilogy fresh for players who have been following Cloud and company across newer hardware.

The third Final Fantasy VII remake entry is currently expected sometime in 2027, which would place it around the original game's 30th anniversary. Hamaguchi has also previously said the Switch 2 version of Part 3 is being worked on alongside the other platforms, so Nintendo players appear to be part of the plan from the start.
