Final Fantasy VII fans are still waiting for Square Enix to properly lift the curtain on the third and final game in the remake trilogy. There is no release date yet, and the full title has not been revealed either. Even so, director Naoki Hamaguchi has shared a small but very welcome progress update for anyone wondering how far along the project might be.

Hamaguchi said he is pleased with how the game is coming together, and the standout detail is a big one: he has already completed more than 40 full playthroughs of it. For a role-playing game of this scale, that is a lot of time spent checking the adventure from start to finish. It also suggests the team is deep into the stage where flow, balance, pacing, and the overall feel of the journey can be tested again and again.

The director also said he wants as many players as possible to experience the game, while the team continues working to make the final chapter a memorable gameplay experience. That does not give fans a date to circle on the calendar, but it does paint a calmer picture than silence alone. The last stretch of a trilogy this famous carries plenty of pressure, especially when it has to bring years of remake storytelling together.

There may also be a small clue in how Square Enix is thinking about timing. When asked about the shorter gap between Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Switch 2, Hamaguchi noted that big games often have a long wait between early entries. In this case, because those versions were ports, the team could release them closer together. He also said Square Enix wants to use that rhythm and the current moment to connect the experiences more smoothly.

Aerith

For now, the third Final Fantasy VII remake entry remains officially untitled and undated. Still, with Hamaguchi already running through the full game dozens of times, the project sounds far from distant vapor. Fans hoping for the trilogy to close sooner rather than later now have one more reason to keep an eye on Square Enix’s next announcement.
