The last stop in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is still under wraps, but director Naoki Hamaguchi has already spent a serious amount of time with it. According to Hamaguchi, he has completed the third entry more than 40 times.
That detail came up while he was discussing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth ahead of its Nintendo Switch 2 release. When asked how the upcoming third and final game is coming along, Hamaguchi said the team is excited by its current progress.
For fans, the number is the standout part. The wider world still has very little official information about the finale, yet its director has apparently played it from start to finish again and again. In old-school RPG terms, that is not a quick lap around the block.
Hamaguchi also explained that he does not often set aside downtime purely to relax. Games remain part of how he spends that time, which makes his repeated playthroughs feel less like a strange boast and more like a peek at how closely he is living with the project.

He added that he wants as many players as possible to experience the game for themselves, and said he and the team are working to make it an unforgettable gameplay experience. The finale may not have a formal reveal yet, but it already sounds like a game being tested with a very steady hand.
