DLC Is Still On The Table

Square Enix has not ruled out the idea of adding more to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project after Part 3 arrives. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has suggested that DLC for the trilogy's final chapter is possible, although nothing has been confirmed and the shape of the game itself is still not fully clear.

That last point matters. Part 3 is expected to close out a long remake trilogy, but we still do not know how large it will be, how far it will go with its story, or how it will handle the many pieces still left on the table. Any expansion could mean very different things, from extra story material to a wider look at the Final Fantasy 7 world.

Why Rebirth Did Not Get DLC

Hamaguchi explained that Square Enix chose not to build DLC for the second entry while also developing the third game. In his view, running both efforts at the same time would have risked slowing Part 3 down and could have affected its overall quality. The team appears to have treated the final game as the priority rather than stretching itself across extra content.

What Could Still Be Possible

  • A post-launch expansion for Part 3 has not been ruled out by Square Enix.
  • Player demand seems likely to decide whether the team explores DLC more seriously.
  • Because the main game's scope is still unknown, it is too early to assume what any extra content would cover.
  • Ideas could range from material connected to Advent Children to something that touches the Dirge of Cerberus side of the timeline, but nothing has been announced.

The timing also makes the idea easier to understand. Since Part 3 is set to be the last act of the trilogy, it may leave room for Square Enix to revisit extra ideas once the main story is complete. Hamaguchi indicated that if there is strong demand, the company would be open to looking at DLC possibilities in a more active way.

For now, the safest reading is that DLC is a possibility, not a plan. Fans still need to see what Part 3 actually tries to do first. Given how much story and gameplay ground remains, it would not be surprising if the final entry is the largest of the three, but its full direction has not been shown yet.

Z-retro's view: DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 could make sense if the final game lands cleanly first. Extra content would be welcome for many fans, but only if it supports the trilogy rather than distracting from its ending.
