Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is finally moving beyond its long PS3-only life. The stealth classic is set to arrive on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S later this summer, with its return dated for 27th August 2026.
A new gameplay video now shows more than an hour from the PS5 version. Once the opening talk is out of the way, the footage moves into the first act, giving fans a clear look at how Snake’s fourth mainline mission plays on current hardware.
This is not being presented like a full remake or a heavy remaster. The focus is simpler: bring Metal Gear Solid 4 to newer systems, raise the resolution, and improve the frame rate. Even so, the footage gives a useful peek at the smaller changes, including updated main menu and save/load features.
Some familiar details are still exactly where fans would hope to find them. The in-game iPod remains, and the “No Place for Hideo” box is also still included. Beyond those touches, the main appeal is straightforward: this is Guns of the Patriots running on machines people can actually use today.
On PS5, Metal Gear Solid 4 will be part of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. The package also includes Peace Walker and a range of extras. The Assassin’s Creed content from the original release is included, Metal Gear Online is not, and Peace Walker’s co-op modes will be available.
Z-retro sees this as a practical kind of preservation win. It may not be a lavish rebuild, but making a hard-to-access PlayStation classic easier to play again is still valuable for longtime fans and curious newcomers alike.
