Devolver Digital’s next Switch release has a nicely old-school spark to it. Dark Scrolls, the fantasy dungeon-scroller from Doinksoft, is now set to arrive on Nintendo Switch on 28th May.

Doinksoft, known for Gato Roboto and Gunbrella, first showed this one a little while back, and the new release date comes with a fresh gameplay trailer. The clip focuses on online co-op, where the screen quickly fills with enemies, attacks, and the kind of arcade clutter that should feel familiar to anyone raised on side-scrolling action.

Dungeon Crawling With Shmup Energy

Dark Scrolls is built around side-scrolling dungeon runs, but it borrows plenty of pace and pressure from shoot ’em ups. Players are sent in to clear out strange creatures while dodging through busy waves of danger. With a partner along for the ride, the action looks even louder, showing off different characters and the ways their playstyles can change a run.

What Dark Scrolls Includes

  • Nine playable characters, each with their own approach to combat.
  • Weapons and attacks that include axes, arrows, knives, and even thrown steaks.
  • A strange line-up of enemies to fight through across each run.
  • Unique skills, side goals, and trinkets that can be adjusted for each character.
  • Online co-op support, as shown in the latest trailer.

It certainly looks busy, and that level of chaos may be a little much for some players. Still, the mix of roguelike fantasy, co-op action, and retro arcade noise gives Dark Scrolls a clear personality ahead of its Switch launch later this month.
