A Classic RPG Finds A New Home

Snake Plissken, known in the homebrew scene for Doom ports on PS4 and PS5, has returned with another retro-minded release. This time, the developer has brought Daggerfall Unity to PS4, giving homebrew users a new way to play a much-loved Elder Scrolls entry on Sony hardware.

The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall was published by Bethesda Softworks and originally launched for MS-DOS on September 20, 1996. It was the second game in the Elder Scrolls series, following 1994’s The Elder Scrolls: Arena, and kept the series focused on large open worlds, action role-playing, and player-driven adventure.

Built From Daggerfall Unity

This PS4 release uses Daggerfall Unity, an open source recreation of the original game built in the Unity engine. The wider project comes from Daggerfall Workshop, where players can find more details about how the recreation works and what it brings to the old PC classic.

Play Notes

  • Snake Plissken recommends using a keyboard, mouse, and PS4 controller while playing.
  • After character creation, players can press Esc in-game to open a menu for sensitivity settings and controller button reading or rebinding.
  • A video has been shown with the port running on an actual PS4.
  • The latest release is available to download, and feedback can be sent to Snake Plissken on Twitter.
