BioCreeps is a new sci-fi action arcade platformer for the NES, and it has already made a strong start on Kickstarter. The campaign has reached its funding goal with 18 days still left, giving this chunky little retro project a clear path forward.
The game comes from pixel artist Nate Ehlers, who is co-designing it with NES programmer Łukasz Kur. Kur has experience on projects including Gruniożerca Trilogy, The Cowlitz Gamers Adventure, and Mystery World Dizzy, so BioCreeps has some real 8-bit know-how behind it.
BioCreeps is built for either solo play or two-player action. The plan is for five zones in total, spread across 80 levels. Each level is said to bring its own mix of enemies, obstacles, and a boss, which sounds like a busy setup for a homebrew NES release.
The most interesting part is how it plays with old platforming habits. This is not just a left-to-right run where you hop on every creature in your path. When your character is on the ground, enemies can only be stunned, so staying low will not solve everything.
Instead, BioCreeps wants players to spend plenty of time in the air. Shotguns are used not only for attacking, but also for movement, pushing players upward and helping them line up attacks from above. It gives the game a neat arcade hook while still feeling very much at home on Nintendo hardware.
The project description frames it as a platformer where enemies must be beaten by shooting from above. It also leans into co-op play, inviting a friend to help smash through a variety of unpleasant Creeps across the levels.
There is also a small progression layer. Players can collect cash during stages, then spend it on upgrades and special moves at the end of a zone. That should give each run a little more texture than simple stage clearing.
BioCreeps is currently described as 95% complete. The remaining work is final beta testing, plus the visual and level polish that comes with that process. After that, manufacturing is expected to begin, with January 2027 listed as the current release estimate.
