Zool is stepping back into the Mega Drive spotlight with a new officially licensed physical release for Sega’s 16-bit console. The project is being presented as more than a simple cartridge run, with 33 Games describing it as a release built around authentic physical presentation, carefully chosen materials, and collector-level detail.
That tone fits the character neatly. Zool, the “Ninja of the Nth Dimension,” arrived during the early ’90s platforming rush, when many studios were chasing the bright, speedy energy made famous by Mario and Sonic. Gremlin’s hero found a real audience across home computers and consoles, and the name still carries a very specific retro flavor.
A Collector-Led Return
33 Games calls Zool its first major statement: a physical edition made with care, restraint, and permanence. The wording is very deliberate. Rather than leaning on loud nostalgia, the project is being framed as a considered object for collectors who want the game to feel at home beside original-era releases.

The wider collection also includes A Gremlin in the Stereo, described as a deluxe gatefold vinyl celebrating the sound and legacy of Gremlin Interactive. The available announcement wording also points to a curated additional element, though the full detail is not included in the material available here.
Confirmed Edition Detail
- The Zool Ultimate Archive Edition is priced at £129.99.
- The edition is limited to 150 pieces.

- 33 Games says the release uses authentic presentation, considered materials, and collector-level detail.
How The Tease Began
Before the updated announcement, 33 Games and Umbra Dynamics had teased the comeback on LinkedIn on March 26, 2026. The short video showed Zool and suggested that the character was returning in some form, without laying out the full product details at that stage.

That teaser also featured several other company names, including Hilltop, Hologram Ghost, and Urbanscan Ltd. Urbanscan Ltd is notable here because it previously handled an iOS release of the game, adding another small link in Zool’s long and slightly winding modern history.
Zool’s Platform History
The original Zool launched on Amiga in 1992, then moved across a wide spread of systems, including Sega Genesis and Mega Drive, SNES, Master System, Game Boy, and Game Gear. Zool 2 followed in 1993 and appeared on Amiga, CD32, and Atari Jaguar.
For Z-retro, this looks like a careful revival rather than a noisy reboot. The limited run and physical-first approach will not suit every fan, especially at the Archive Edition price, but it gives Zool a respectful return on hardware closely tied to the era that made the character memorable.
