Virgil van Dijk’s season on the pitch may not be remembered as a classic, but his gaming taste away from football has caught a few retro-loving eyes. The Liverpool defender has reportedly been seen more than once with a Neon Orange PS Vita in hand.
That is a charmingly unexpected choice in 2026. With modern handhelds like Steam Deck, and even Switch 2, around the conversation now, seeing a major footballer stick with Sony’s older portable gives the moment a neat little PlayStation throwback feel.
The game spotted on his Vita is GTA Vice City Stories, which fits the mood perfectly: a PSP-era Grand Theft Auto entry being played on one of Sony’s most fondly remembered handhelds. It is not the newest setup, but it has plenty of style.
The color makes the sighting even better. Neon Orange naturally lines up with the Netherlands national team, who are famously known as Oranje. For a Dutch captain, that handheld shade feels almost too on-brand to be accidental.

There is also an old Liverpool gaming echo here. Goalkeeper David James was famously linked with heavy PS1 play during his time at the club, and rival fans will no doubt enjoy drawing the comparison while LFC closes out a rough Premier League title defence.
