Retro Games Ltd has pushed back THEA1200, its upcoming full-size Amiga replica, from its planned June 16, 2026 release. The plug-and-play system is now due to arrive on Friday, December 4.
For retro fans who have been following this machine since its first tease in 2023, the wait has already been longer than expected. THEA1200 was once planned for 2024, but that launch window slipped after a legal dispute over the rights to the Amiga OS.
Why The Date Changed
The latest update came through social media and was signed by Chris Smith, chief technical officer at Retro Games Ltd, on behalf of the A1200 team. Smith said the team wanted to thank supporters for sticking with the project while it works through the final stretch.

According to the update, the machine itself is no longer the main hold-up. The hardware is finished, including the chipset, plastics, and final moulds, and the project has now moved into the manufacturing stage.
The Main Issues
- Global chip shortages slowed the wider schedule and took time for the team to work around.
- Higher plastic production costs also affected the timing of the project.
- Those delays had knock-on effects for the operating system, which Smith said still is not ready enough for release.
The OS Still Needs Time
That software point is the key caveat. Even with the physical machine complete, Retro Games Ltd does not want to ship THEA1200 before the OS reaches the level the team believes it needs. For a system built around Amiga nostalgia, that matters: the feel of the experience is just as important as the shell on the desk.

The team also acknowledged that delays are frustrating and said it is not treating that lightly. It credited user feedback as an important part of shaping the product, and said the final version should reflect that input rather than simply meet an old date on the calendar.
Retro Games Ltd says it will share regular progress updates from this point on, so buyers can follow the remaining work. A Q&A is also planned, giving the team a chance to answer more direct questions about the revised launch and what still needs to happen before December.
