That rumor did not sound completely wild to the community. Fox McCloud already seemed set for a more noticeable role, so the idea of Nintendo bringing Star Fox back on new hardware had just enough retro sparkle to feel possible.

There is still a reasonable caveat here. NateTheHate has suggested that Nintendo may simply have moved its timing a little. A Star Fox reveal could have landed too close to the recent Splatoon Raiders announcement, which might explain the quiet.
The calendar may also matter. Today falls during Japan's Golden Week, a week-long holiday period when Nintendo is unlikely to make a major announcement. If the rumor has any truth behind it, the wait may be about timing rather than cancellation.
In the meantime, the community has found other ways to fill the gap. Beyond picking apart leaks and whispers, fans have been arguing about shipping content, after one fan artist reportedly pushed Wolf-Fox posts far enough that shipping content was banned for everyone.
The wider Star Fox nostalgia has also been stirred by an old development detail. A programmer who worked on Super Mario 64 and Star Fox has said developers were not always given free copies of their own games, meaning they sometimes had to wait for supply to catch up if a title sold out.
For now, the rumored Star Fox Switch 2 game remains just that: a rumor. Fans have hope, doubt, and plenty of theories, but Nintendo has not shown the game. Until it does, Fox McCloud's next flight path is still hidden.
