A Fresh Look For Classic Kirby
Kirby's early Game Boy adventures have already had some love from the homebrew scene, and now another fan effort is aiming to give them a brighter PC life.
The project comes from Grape Garden Games and Team Starfall, who are working on an unofficial PC port called Kirby's Dream Land 2+3.
A demo is planned for May 30. The team describes it as a way to experience the well-known Game Boy tale with refreshed visuals, improved stages, and extra content.

The developer has also made one point clear: this is not connected to HAL Laboratory, the original studio behind the Kirby games.
The Nintendo Question
That disclaimer may matter, because Nintendo has taken action against fan projects before. In 2016, it pursued AM2R, a remake of Metroid II.
In 2021, Nintendo also acted against Prime 2D, a fan-made attempt to rework Metroid Prime as a side-scrolling 2D game. Fan-made Pokemon projects have been closed in the past as well.

For now, it is unknown whether this Kirby PC port will draw the same kind of attention. Some ROM hacks, including Kirby's Dream Land 2 DX, are still available at the time of writing.
Z-retro's view is that fan projects can be lovely tributes to older games, but they sit in a delicate space where nostalgia, creativity, and rights ownership all have to be treated carefully.
