Return To Blacktooth Is Here
Return to Blacktooth: A Head Over Heels Adventure is now available for the Amiga and Atari ST. It arrives with a neat little launch offer and the lovely promise of playing a game that has been close to 40 years in the making.
The regular price is $12.99, but for a limited time it can be picked up for $9.74. That gives long-time Head Over Heels fans, and curious retro players, a slightly easier way back into Blacktooth while the release is fresh.
A Sequel With Deep Roots
The story behind this one reaches right back to the home-computer years. Head Over Heels is remembered as one of the best-loved games of the 1980s. It was created by Jon Ritman and Bernie Drummond as a spiritual successor to their much-admired isometric Batman game from 1986.

Like many true 80s favourites, Head Over Heels travelled widely. It appeared on a broad run of home computer formats, including the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Commodore Amiga, and Atari ST. Its puzzle-heavy isometric style helped it stay in the memory long after those machines left most desks.
Return to Blacktooth has an unusually personal connection to that history. Colin Porch, who converted the original Head Over Heels to the Atari ST, has been quietly working on this follow-up since 1989. Now the project has reached a full Amiga and ST release through Thalamus Digital Publishing and Atari.
What The New Adventure Adds
Porch has expanded the old formula with new rooms, fresh level layouts, and more puzzles to solve. Thalamus Digital has also described the game as including a range of challenging new gameplay mechanics, so this is not being presented as a simple nostalgia piece with familiar scenery.
Key Details
- 3D isometric arcade adventure built for Amiga and Atari ST players.
- More than 350 rooms spread across five worlds.
- Two playable characters and a host of enemies.
- 16-bit-style visuals designed to suit the target platforms.
Thalamus Digital’s interest in the project comes from a clear affection for the original game. The publisher has described Porch’s sequel as a labour of love, made with care and respect for Head Over Heels and aimed at the audience that kept that world alive.
When first detailed on June 17, 2025, Return to Blacktooth was expected in Q4 2025. With the May 5, 2026 update, that long wait is over: the sequel is out, discounted for a limited period, and ready to send Head and Heels back into a very familiar kind of 16-bit trouble.
