Mega Cat Studios' Lethal Wedding has been hanging around the retro scene for a long time. The Genesis / Mega Drive shooter was first announced more than seven years ago, and it has now been almost two years since it drew wider attention as a possible new cartridge release.

Even so, the game still does not have an official release. A Kickstarter campaign that was once expected has been pushed back indefinitely, and there has been little public detail about what has been happening behind the scenes.

One awkward detail is that the trailer currently shown on the company's website appears to be the same one published in 2020. Because of that, it is not clear whether the game itself has changed much during the long wait, or whether the delay is more about the practical pressure of launching and supporting a crowdfunding campaign.

At the time of the latest update on May 7, 2026, more information had been requested through the developer's PR channel. Until clearer answers arrive, Lethal Wedding remains one of those intriguing modern Sega projects that looks real, playable, and close in spirit, but still just out of reach.

The original plan, shared on September 25, 2024, was for Mega Cat Studios to bring Lethal Wedding to Genesis / Mega Drive through Kickstarter. The game was pitched as a top-down shooter with a clear debt to Zombies Ate My Neighbors, mixing arcade chaos with a strange wedding-day horror-comedy setup.

Its main hook is two-player couch co-op, with players cutting through carnage-crazed carnies and unhinged circus performers. The publisher also highlighted a Vow System, which is meant to change how players approach stages by adding risk-and-reward choices.

Planned Features

  • Top-down Genesis / Mega Drive shooting with a dodge-roll move
  • Two-player local co-op for couch play
  • Multiple wedding-themed weapons
  • 30 levels with animated cutscenes
  • 25 upgrades tied to the Vow System

The Vow System is described as a way to earn upgrades by taking on extra demands in each level. For example, unlocking an upgrade such as Speed Reload would require accepting a specific condition first, rather than simply collecting a standard power-up.

The campaign was originally scheduled to launch on Kickstarter on November 4, 2024. That date passed without the planned public rollout, leaving the project in a quiet and uncertain spot rather than a normal pre-order or funding cycle.

Its Zombies Ate My Neighbors influence also makes the crowdfunding question interesting. Another game with a similar inspiration, Retro Sumus' Sovietborgs, missed its Indiegogo funding target last year, showing that affection for this style does not automatically turn into a successful campaign.

Z-retro's view is that Lethal Wedding is worth watching, but patience is sensible. The idea has strong Sega-era appeal, while the long delay means players should wait for firm release details before treating it as anything more than a promising project.
