A New Game Drive Takes Shape
James from RetroHQ has posted a new demo of his upcoming ROM cart for the IGS PolyGame Master. The video shows several games running from the cart and gives a clear look at the fast load times. For fans of unusual arcade hardware, it is a small but very welcome sign of progress.
The cart is being called a Game Drive, though the final details are still not locked in. There is no official price yet, and there is no firm release date. James is hoping to have it ready by the end of the year, but for now it remains a project in progress rather than a finished shop item.
Support is also still being confirmed. James has said the final title list is not set yet, but type 1, type 2, and type 3 ASIC27A games are already running. IGS022 and IGS025 support is working too, which is an encouraging start for a system with some very specific arcade hardware needs.
The PGM library is not huge, but it has its share of gems, including several Cave shooters. That makes a reliable modern ROM cart especially interesting for collectors and arcade fans who want easier access to the system without losing the feel of the original board.
Anyone who wants to dig deeper into the PolyGame Master itself has a few good places to start. Nicole Express wrote a strong technical overview of the hardware, while Scarlet Sprites and Modern Vintage Gamer both made useful video overviews. For more from James, searching a podcast app for RetroRGB RetroHQ should bring up his interview.
