Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the kind of RPG that can swallow whole weekends, so hearing that director Naoki Hamaguchi has already cleared the next game more than 40 times is a little wild. The final entry in Square Enix’s remake project is still in active development, but Hamaguchi says he has put in “over 40 full playthroughs” of Part 3.

That wording matters. A full playthrough sounds like more than checking a few scenes, testing a boss, or jumping around a debug build. It suggests Hamaguchi has gone through the adventure from beginning to end again and again, possibly with side content included. At that point, even the most devoted PlayStation memory card would ask for a break.

In an interview with Nintendo Life, Hamaguchi said he is looking forward to more players getting to experience the game, and that he and the team are working to make it an unforgettable gameplay experience. It is a clear sign that, while the project is not ready for the public yet, its director is deep in the daily rhythm of shaping, testing, and replaying it.

He also shared a small detail about how he clears his head after so much time with the game. On the way home, he sometimes gets off the train a few stops early and walks the rest of the way. Aside from that, it sounds like Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is taking up most of his attention right now.

The timing is interesting because Square Enix has said it is now planning the public reveal of Part 3. The RPG also has an official name inside the company. Fans are now watching for when it might appear, with some looking toward Summer Game Fest next month. By then, Hamaguchi may have added even more clears to that already rather heroic total.
