Square Enix has confirmed its Dragon Quest 40th anniversary broadcast for May 27. The stream is scheduled for 6am PT, 9am ET, 2pm BST, and 3pm CEST, giving fans in several regions a daytime chance to check in on one of RPG history's most familiar names.
The show will stream on YouTube through the official Dragon Quest channel. It will be presented in Japanese, with English subtitles available, so viewers outside Japan should still be able to follow the main announcements without waiting for a separate recap.
The interesting detail is the length. Square Enix says the broadcast will run for around 10 minutes, which makes it sound more like a compact anniversary update than a full showcase. That short runtime also makes recent talk of several major announcements feel much less likely.
A focused format could still leave room for something meaningful. A brief appearance from series creator Yuji Horii and a couple of trailers would fit the time nicely, and Dragon Quest 12 remains the obvious game many fans will be watching for. It is also possible the stream simply sets up more details later, especially with Summer Game Fest coming next week.

Z-retro's view: a 10-minute show is modest, but that is not automatically a bad sign. For a series with Dragon Quest's legacy, a clear update and one strong trailer could be enough to make this anniversary moment worth watching.
