Evercade maker Blaze has shared a very small teaser with a very retro question at its heart: what if your favourite home computers from the 1980s could be portable? It is only a few seconds long, but for fans of old-school machines, that is more than enough to start guessing.

The clip appeared on both the Evercade and HyperMegaTech social channels. Its message is shown in two classic computer styles: one using Sinclair BASIC and the other using Commodore BASIC. That makes the likely subjects fairly clear. Blaze seems to be pointing toward the ZX Spectrum and the Commodore 64.

What Could It Be?

There are a few sensible possibilities. Blaze has already released cartridges for the Evercade family that include Spectrum and C64 games, so the teaser could be linked to more cartridge collections. Another route could be new Super Pocket handhelds from HyperMegaTech, Blaze's sub-brand, with themed game lineups built around those machines.

Still, the tease may not be about either of those paths. Blaze could have fresh hardware or a different kind of product planned for both systems, built around the idea of playing those home computer libraries in a portable form. For now, the company has left the shape of the reveal open.

One thing is worth keeping in mind: portable Spectrum projects already exist, including the ZX Vega+ and ZX Touch. So if Blaze is heading into similar territory, it will need a distinctive angle to feel special. The teaser has done its job, though. It has put Spectrum and C64 fans on watch.
